前幾天，我翻著那堆很久沒整理的CD，翻著翻著，看到幾張沒有寫明專輯內容，只寫了燒錄日期2000年12月20日(嗯，聖誕節前夕)的MP3光碟，於是隨手拿了其中一張塞進光碟機，想要看看在5年前的聖誕前夕我燒了哪些歌起來。結果就發現了這張U2的專輯赫然出現在檔案列表裏，我心想，這張可是我國中時代的經典專輯啊，雖然當時的我只聽專輯裡的兩首主打歌：With or without you、I still haven't found what I'm looking for，可是，這畢竟是一張經典的專輯。
當然，在我更成熟之後的高中時代，我又買了這張專輯的CD，因為國中時代的錄音帶我已經找不到任何可以播放的裝置了：(。一直到那時候，我才真正了解到為什麼這張專輯可以稱的上是U2的經典，而我也更明白這首歌其實不止是單純的情歌而已。這首歌描述的其實是英國跟愛爾蘭之間矛盾的關係。眾所皆知愛爾蘭一直想要獨立建國，因為不管在文化上或是政治上他們都跟英國有著很大的差異，偏偏英國沒有考慮到這些差異，於是在管理上有很多讓愛爾蘭人反感的舉動，可是另一方面在經濟上他們卻必須倚賴英國的支援，這就造成了一些矛盾，所以在歌詞裡才會有With or without you I can't live出現。
現在回頭來聽這首歌，好像更能夠體會Bono寫下這首歌的矛盾心情。
